We’ll admit it: when we first saw jorts making their way back, our immediate thought was, really? We’re doing this again?
But then you start seeing them everywhere. Margot Robbie in tiny cut-offs and Kristen Stewart in longer, low-slung versions.Suddenly the question isn’t whether jorts are back, but which jorts are we talking about? We noticed celebrities taking very different approaches to the trend.
What’s on the table?
You have the classic cut-off: short, frayed and very summer-holiday-in-Italy. Then there’s the longer, roomier Bermudaversion that sits somewhere between your favourite jeans and a pair of tailored shorts.
And right now, both are having a moment.
Personally, TFH thinks there’s something very effortless about a good pair of knee-grazing denim shorts with a simple tank, oversized shirt and a great handbag. Add ballet flats or sandals and suddenly the whole thing feels less “I’m wearing shorts” and more I just happen to look good today.
The best thing about jorts? They’re incredibly easy.
You probably already own half the wardrobe you need to style them.
A white shirt or your favourite jacket. A fitted tee.
A tank top. That versatility is what makes us think this trend has some staying power.
Where we’d be careful?
Not every pair of jorts is going to work for everyone.
The very long, super-baggy versions can be tricky if you’re petite, especially when they’re sitting low on the hips and swallowing the proportions of the outfit.
Short cut-offs? They can go from effortlessly cool to “I accidentally wore my concert shorts from 2019” pretty quickly.
Jorts vs. Bermudas?
This is probably the real debate.
Short jorts feel playful, nostalgic and very summer-holiday. Easy with a tank, sandals and your favourite bag.
Bermuda jorts feel a little more polished and grown-up. They’re relaxed without looking too casual, and probably the easier starting point if you’re unsure about the trend.
The TFH Take?
We’re not saying every trend deserves a place in your wardrobe. But jorts? We kind of get it.
They’re easy, comfortable and have that perfectly undone summer feel. Especially when styled right
Would we buy every version? No.
Would we spend 20 minutes deciding if our YSL or Fendi flats look nicer with them? Absolutely.
And honestly, that’s kinda chic.
